General Position Summary
The Chair of MSC FISH is responsible for managing a staff of 8 Executives, 18 Assistant Directors, and up to 80 freshmen members. The Chair is responsible for various tasks including, but not limited to:
- Coordination of member management process including recruitment, interviews and selections
- Manage daily operations of committee including reviewing weekly reports, enforcing MSC Policies, and delegating tasks to team
- Ensuring all programs/efforts align with the mission of the MSC and MSC FISH
- Serve as an active voting member in relevant PA meetings and all CAT meetings; working to make sure all programs, policies, and speakers represent the mission and vision of the MSC
- Assist in the development of staff and general members through facilitated activities, meetings, and leadership tools
- Lead the development of Executives through curriculum
- Overseeing and facilitating work being done by Executives, Assistant Directors, and freshmen members
- Make decisions regarding number of staff members are freshmen based on the circumstances that year presents
Minimum Requirement
- One year of MSC Leadership experience or equivalent.

Significant changes or additional functions for this position in the upcoming year
- Must attend Leadership Launch and August Leadership Refresher
- Must attend all summer FLAC meetings pertaining to recruitment
- Must plan and coordinate staff summer work days, etc.
- Must attend all Internal Workshops, All-Group Bonding Events, etc.
- Must attend all FISH’s programs and assist the hosting Executives and Assistant Directors

- Set timelines for the committees and help the Executive members follow those timelines.

- Set and maintain a budget for one fiscal year with the advisor.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, and/or Skills
- Previous experience as an MSC FISH Assistant Director or Executive
- Previous experience as an MSC FISH freshman member
- Creating long-term plans

Required MSC Council Officer Responsibilities:
- Represent the MSC Council: As a student leader in the MSC Council, your actions are a direct reflection and representation of the organization and our values. Committee Chairs have the responsibility of directing their committee’s programs and goals to ensure alignment with those of the MSC Council.
- Alignment with the MSC Programs mission: MSC Programs will prioritize support for programs, experiences, and student leadership opportunities that reflect and align with its mission of engaging students in providing purposefully designed campus programs and service opportunities that prepare them to be global leaders.
- Attend Weekly Monday Night Meetings: When creating your academic schedule, please be mindful of your requirement to attend Program Assembly meetings every Monday night at 6pm.
- Complete the full Academic Year: MSC Officer positions are meant to be performed for the full academic year including the Summer.
- Attend Leadership Launch (& August Leadership Refresher): Every spring, the MSC hosts Leadership Launch in order to assist with the transition of new leaders.
- Understand the Student-Staff Partnership: Each committee is assigned an advisor by MSC Programs. Through that advisor, MSC Programs and the MSC Council are committed to strong student/staff partnerships and built upon the idea that there is mutuality in teaching and learning and that advisors and students see each other as a resource; each group offering what it uniquely can provide.
